Amedee Island & Lighthouse

Turquoise lagoon, white-sand beaches and the South Pacific’s iconic iron lighthouse.

Just 24 km from Nouméa, Amedee Island blends natural beauty with maritime heritage.

Amedee Island at a glance

Amedee Island rests inside New Caledonia’s UNESCO-listed lagoon—a shallow, crystal-clear marine sanctuary dotted with coral and reef fish. Expect calm water, easy snorkeling and powdery white sand framed by palms.

  • Location: ~24 km from Nouméa (about 40–45 min by boat).
  • Environment: protected marine area—no collecting, no feeding wildlife.
  • Facilities: beach loungers, bar, shop, shaded areas and restrooms.

Amedee Lighthouse

The white, cast-iron lighthouse has guarded the Boulari Pass since the late 19th century. Prefabricated in France, shipped and assembled here, it’s an engineering icon and one of New Caledonia’s most beloved landmarks.

Note: access and opening are managed on site by the keeper and depend on conditions; entry ticket sold locally.
