Whale Watching

Set out in search of whales with Mary D!

More than just a whale-watching trip, embark on an excursion dedicated to discovery, sharing and raising awareness about these extraordinary marine mammals.

Every winter, humpback whales return to New Caledonian waters. Mary D invites you to set out in search of them on a full-day excursion dedicated to finding and observing these magnificent animals in their natural habitat.

More than just a day at sea, this excursion has been designed as an experience of discovery, sharing and awareness, for both children and adults.

A day guided by the whales

There is no fixed itinerary: the whales lead the way!

Departing from Nouméa at 8:00 am, Mary D heads out to sea in search of these marine mammals. The route and observation areas will vary depending on where the whales are and the encounters we have throughout the day.

There is no landing on an islet. At lunchtime, the boat will stop near a reef or in front of an islet, depending on where our search for the whales has taken us.

Return to Nouméa is scheduled for approximately 4:30 pm.

Observe, discover and understand

Throughout the excursion, our passionate guides will be on board to enhance your experience, provide explanations and share their knowledge of humpback whales.

Behaviour, migration, reproduction, conservation… these discussions will help you learn more about these extraordinary marine mammals and gain a deeper understanding of the whales you may encounter at sea.

Responsible whale watching

Whale encounters should always respect the animals and their need for space and tranquillity.

The Mary D team is trained in the regulations governing whale watching and follows the rules designed to minimise disturbance during encounters.

Travelling aboard a large vessel also has an important advantage: it allows many passengers to enjoy the experience together on a single boat, helping to reduce the number of vessels around the whales at the same time.

The comfort of a large boat

Aboard Mary D, you can enjoy the space and comfort of a large vessel throughout your day at sea.

The boat’s different areas give you plenty of room to enjoy the journey, watch the ocean and move around during the day, whether you are sharing the experience with family, friends or fellow nature lovers.

You are welcome to bring your own picnic lunch to enjoy on board.
